Where we started

Our Story
When I was little, I had the honor of growing up in an artsy household. My grandmother, named Jeanie, owned a successful ceramics business in Florida called Klein's Ceramics. She took an immense amount of pride in her work, and it seemed like every medium of art she tried came effortlessly to her. The ones that defined her, though, were ceramics, sculpting, and painting 2D and 3D surfaces.
Through her, I learned how to work with slip and clay. It never really was my niche, though (despite so many years of trying to love it the way she did). After her passing, my parents re-opened Klein's Ceramics in WV, and I spent my middle and high school years painting some of the pieces my grandma used to make when I was younger.
By the time I grew up and started college, I had started to feel a suffocating amount of 'burn out'- I never could paint or sculp or craft the way grandma could. Trying to 'work through it' made me dislike the mediums all together. I think I spent a long time trying to live up to her memory, and feeling guilt when I couldn't.
So I took a break from crafting, for years.
It wasn't until around 2020, during the heart of the Covid epidemic, that I started experimenting with resin and jewelry. And then in 2021, I dipped into candle and wax melt making! Being able to learn and grow with these mediums sparked a love for crafting that I hadn't felt in YEARS! And with this creative freedom came the understanding that my grandmother's memory wasn't something I needed to compare myself to. She lived her life loving the medium of art that spoke to HER, and now I get to do the same. That is how I choose to honor her- to simply make things that bring me joy. I'd like to think she'd be happy and proud.
In 2023, I officially named my small business "J22 Crafts"- the "J" represents the first letter in my grandma's name, and the "22" being my lucky number!
This website is brand new, but it comes with years of pop-up events (fairs and festivals around the NRV), item appearances in local art stores, late night research sessions (with plenty of trial-and-error moments), and hard work that shows in each and every item I present to you today. If you have any questions or comments, I'd be thrilled to hear from you! Until then, thank you for reading this long-winded story. Have a wonderful day!
